Assessment factors |
Notes |
Bed Leveling |
- After an initial setup, re-levelling the bed is rarely required
Extruder Flowrate |
- After cleaning / replacing Metering valve components on either toolhead
- After changing or reloading material
- If the printer has been sitting idle for several days
Bed Offset |
- After cleaning / replacing Metering valve components on either toolhead
- After changing to a new material
- This routine is required for new material changes since the toolhead is cleaned in the process
XY Calibration |
- After cleaning / replacing Metering valve components on either toolhead
- After changing to a new material
- This routine is required for new material changes since the toolhead is cleaned in the process
Cleaning the Nozzle |
- Clog in the Metering Valve
- Storing printer for more than 4 weeks of non-use
Reloading Material |
- When cartridge is empty
- Feedstock issues (drying out inside hose, fluid separating, etc.)
- The feedstock has expired
Changing Material |
- When the cartridge is empty
- Feedstock issues (drying out inside hose, fluid separating, etc.)
- The feedstock has expired
Cleaning the Paste Feed Hose |
- Changing to a different material
- Feedstock issues (drying out inside hose, fluid separating, etc.)
Changing the Nozzle |
- When it's too difficult to clean out the nozzle tip
- When a spare nozzle assembly is available to quickly replace it with
- It can be more convenient to replace the assembly if you're in a hurry. The previous tip can be soaked in water and cleaned / replaced at your convenience
Changing the Nozzle Tip |
- The tip is damaged / bent
- When it's too difficult to clean out the nozzle tip
- The nozzle tip does not wear as quickly as conventional plastic FDM due to the extruder being at room temperature.
- While no noticeable wear has been seen within 3000 hours of printing (has not been tested past this), we do recommend to change the nozzle tip after this duration.
Cleaning the Metering Valve |
- Changing to a different material
- Rotor is being replaced
- Clogs where the motor stalls with the nozzle fully removed
- There can be several causes for persistent clogs (like the material drying out inside the Metering Valve)
Replacing the Stator |
- ~500 hours of printing
- Poor Metering Valve performance
- Stator is visibly damaged
- Review xxx for common symptoms of Stator damage & poor Metering Valve performance
- Stator lifetime may exceed lifetime estimates; evaluate the Metering Valve performance periodically and the appearance/condition of the components when cleaning
Replacing the Rotor |
- ~1200 hours of printing
- If replacing the Stator does not improve Metering Valve performance
- Rotor is visibly damaged
- Review xxx for common symptoms of Rotor damage & poor Metering Valve performance
- Rotor lifetime may exceed lifetime estimates; evaluate the Metering Valve performance periodically and the appearance/condition of the components when cleaning
Priming the Charge Pump |
- After initial installation, priming the pump is required infrequently.
- Typical scenarios: the printer water reservoir sits low for very long periods of time or if the water system components fail and need replacement
Greasing the Lead Screw |
- If the Zed axis becomes noisy, some grease applied directly to the lead screw will alleviate this.
